What I read & watched in October

VO specific

I finished There’s Money Where Your Mouth Is by Elaine A. Clark, at least the chapters I felt were most pertinent to my voiceover journey at this stage. I haven't gotten into the sections covering demos yet. No need to get ahead of myself! There are tons of great explanations of the different voiceover genres, along with practice copy for each of them. Amazing resource.

I also started reading The Voice Over Actor’s Handbook by John Burr. This is a much more academic book, focusing on script analysis and, more broadly, the intricacies of interpreting and phrasing the English language. And it goes DEEP. Who remembers what a participle is?? I didn't, but I do now!

For Fun Reading

I’m continuing to devour Dungeon Crawler Carl. I finished The Butcher's Masquerade, read The Eye of the Bedlam Bride, and am halfway through The Inevitable Ruin. #princessposse

Watching

I watched the cutscene movie for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. What a beautiful game! Wonderful music, a fun and twisty story, and some fantastic voice acting. One thing I found particularly amusing: Andy Serkis, the godfather of performance capture, provided only the voice for his character. The performance capture itself was handled earlier.

But what really dominated my watching time this month was my discovery of Critical Role.

I'd heard of it, knew what it was, and, of course, knew Matthew Mercer. But OH BOY, is it fun! I've been watching Campaign Three (not entirely sure why I started there, other than the set looked cool), and I'm completely hooked.

I never played D&D growing up, but watching this has made me want to give it a try!
