A quick lesson in Promo. Also, Vanessa Marshall is awesome! (So is Steve Blum!)

I watched Steve Blum’s interview with Vanessa Marshall this morning. I’m working my way through all his videos, so this one is from way back in November 2021—during COVID! cue horror music sting

Almost as if it were planned, during their discussion about her work in commercials and promo, Vanessa got an email from her agent that she needed to record a promo immediately. So she moved to her studio and we got to watch her do her thing!

It was invaluable to see an actual session in real time. She was reading the copy cold. We also got to hear the director and producer and witness how she interacted with them through the recording (which was all of 10 minutes!!). It was both inspiring and intimidating. It definitely drove home the fact that you have to be ready at a moment's notice and that the work moves fast.

As far as I know, the only way to watch this recording is through Blumvox, Steve’s VO training program. I've learned a TON from his videos. I would highly recommend checking it out if you’re just getting started.
